Mount Rainier
Mount Rainier National Park
In Washington they don't say the weather is clear. They say the mountain is out. Rainier hides behind cloud most of the year, and a still morning like this, the peak clean, the sky on fire, the lake holding all of it, is the one everyone drives up hoping for and rarely gets.
I shot this at Tipsoo Lake right as the sky went off. Wild lupine and grass in close, the pond mirror-flat, the firs standing in their own reflection, and Rainier catching the last cool light above a sky doing something I have only seen a handful of times. A few minutes of color, then gone.
The most famous view in the Pacific Northwest, on one of its best mornings. Printed and finished to gallery standard, made to bring the mountain out on your wall every day.
