Moonrise Over Los Angeles

A full moon rising straight behind the downtown towers is rare enough. With fresh snow on the mountains behind it, it is almost unheard of.
Shot with a long lens that stacks the moon, the skyline, and the snow-covered San Gabriel Mountains into a single frame. The last light of the day catches the glass towers in gold while the peaks behind them turn pink, and the moon climbs up full and heavy over all of it. Three distances, miles apart, pressed into one image.
An alignment like this can be planned to the minute, but the window is only a few minutes wide and the weather has to cooperate. Clear enough to see the moon, cold enough to hold snow on the mountains, calm enough to keep the light. I have chased this one more times than it has worked. This is the night it all lined up.
