4th of July Over Los Angeles

4th of July Over Los Angeles

Mount Wilson Observatory

One night a year, the whole city goes up at once. This is what it looks like from the top of the mountain.
Shot from Mount Wilson on the Fourth of July, looking down over the entire Los Angeles basin. Downtown stands in the middle, and around it, in every neighborhood for as far as the eye can see, thousands of fireworks go off at the same time. No single show, no main event. Just a whole city celebrating in every direction at once.
From nearly six thousand feet up, a long telephoto lens pulls the basin into one frame, compressing miles of city into a single wall of light. It happens for maybe twenty minutes, one night a year, and the smoke only thickens as it goes. You get one chance at it.
For anyone who loves this city loud, bright, and all at once. Printed and finished to gallery standard, made to anchor a living room, an office, or the wall you walk past every day. A piece of Los Angeles to bring home, or to keep the city close long after you leave.
